About me

People usually come to counselling feeling stuck and unable to move on from a difficult situation in their life, whether it happened recently or many years in the past. I try to work with this feeling of ‘stuckness’ by offering a calm and containing environment, where you can express exactly what you are feeling without fear of being rejected. I facilitate the core therapeutic conditions of empathy, authenticity and non-judgement, which are well established as a route to healing.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ population myself, I understand the particular mental health challenges faced by them and hope to work to bring healing from the trauma that is inflicted on many of us. Even today, feelings of being an outsider in a heteronormative society are very common, as is experience of homophobic and transphobic bullying and abuse. Researchers have shown that LGBTQ+ people are significantly more likely to experience poor mental health and attempt suicide than their straight/cisgender counterparts. This is unacceptable and needs to change.

Over the years I have worked closely with university students and people in the creative arts. As well as managing a private practice I work with clients in the NHS.

Location and fees: I see most of my clients online via Zoom or over the telephone. This offers greater flexibility for session times and locations as I can see anyone anywhere in the world.

We will start with a free initial chat to discuss how we might work together, then if you wish to continue, we will have weekly online or face to face sessions for £40.

We can work together on a long term open ended basis, or a short term, goal focused basis. I live and work in Norwich.

What to expect: when you come and see me, initially we will discuss what you are looking for from therapy and how I work. Everything we talk about will be kept completely confidential. I will provide a contract which outlines my commitment to the BACP’s ethical framework. If we agree to work together, then we will see each other weekly for 50 minutes on an open ended basis.
